👨🍳 The MF Kitchen #08 - Super Bowl (recipes and tips)
The Super Bowl is next Sunday (crazy this season went by sooo fast 😭) and I know some of you are hosting parties!
So wanted to share two recipes that will be on display during my Super Bowl party!
First, we have the Blackened Chicken BLT Sliders!
At only 216 calories per slider with 21g protein, these are a GAME CHANGER 🔥
PLUS they are super easy to make!
What I like to do with this recipe for a party is to make 3 of these Cheesecakes the day prior so they have plenty of time to cool and really thicken up.
Then I add the frosting/icing the next day when ready to serve.
Then cut each cheesecake into about 8-10 bite-size slices!
Each slice is only 51 cals with 7g protein!
Summer is coming and introduction to this mix might be a bit early BUT it’s going to be your new favorite. It’s a style of mix I never knew I needed.
How Avocado’s got their name (wild lol)
Avocado cultivation can be traced back thousands of years in what we know now as modern-day Mexico.
But the first real record of them in ancient text is in the 14th century with the Aztec Civilization.
Makes me want to have an avocado right now!
This was marketing for the “superfood” before that was even a thing lol.
But now this is the crazy part 😅
The native language of the Aztecs was Nahuatl.
And the avocado was known as “ahuacatl.”
Which meant… “testicle”
They thought it had an uncanny resemblance to the male anatomy.
I mean I can see it haha.
BUT important to note, avocados were much smaller back then aka the ‘small’ ones you find at the grocery store.
If it were the large ones at the grocery stores… all I can think about are those poor Aztec men fighting gravity 😭
And the obvious connection between fertility had some influence on the naming too.
They mashed it into a rich, green sauce called “ahuacamolli,” a precursor to today’s beloved guacamole.
Over time, the word “ahuacatl” evolved into “aguacate” in Spanish, and then into “avocado” in English.
Anyways, enjoy your new appreciation for Avocados 🤣
Question from Christy (from St. Louis, Missouri) – “Ok so quick question. The Super Bowl is coming up (go Chiefs!) and I am hosting it! Wanted to get a few of your favorite recipes to serve during the game!”
Answer: Hey Christy! Sad Jags fan here jealous of YET ANOTHER Chiefs run to the Super Bowl… I can’t say I am rooting for you guys… I am sure we are going to see Taylor Swift more than the actual game lol. Brock Purdy, please bring it home.
But funny coincidence, I am hosting the Super Bowl as well! Here’s my game plan…
I treat this a bit differently than a meal with the family.
I learned this from a friend of mine named Nick Gray who throws big parties all the time.
He always keeps the food light but with a great variety of drinks.
Everyone just wants to grab and go. Nothing too big or heavy.
The goal for a Super Bowl party is great conversations.
Not stuffing our faces lol.
So I go with a nice spread of fruits to snack on.
Friends bring odds and ends like a veggie tray, chips & salsa, etc.
A variety of drinks. Diet sodas, water, beers, ranch waters, and mixed drink options if they want them.
And then for the actual food, I want enough food so everyone isn’t hungry but not stuffed.
I love to go with a big batch of sliders and then a dessert.
I made these Pepperoni Pizza Sliders last year!
The two I am going with this year are the two recipe PDFs I have at the beginning of the email.
Savory will be my Blackened Chicken BLT Sliders.
And for dessert, my Air Fryer OREO Protein Cheesecakes.
I make the protein cheesecakes the day before and then let them sit in the fridge overnight to really thicken up and set. These get better the longer they are in the fridge.
I cut them up into little grab-and-go slices!
Ideally, I’d be able to make this cheesecake in the oven but I still have yet to nail it. The air fryer makes it perfectly while the oven varies in results (will share once I figure this out).
My party will be about 12ish people so I know that each person will want about 2-3 sliders and 3-4 slices of the cheesecake. You can adjust accordingly.
Remember PDFs are at the beginning of the email to make it easy for ya!
And my friends always make it a requirement that I cook my recipes aka they are the macro-friendly versions.
If you want to have a mix of higher-calorie and lower-calorie options, I suggest that too!
Totally up to you!
A Little Debbie Cosmic Brownie
t is astonishing how little this thing is.
270 calories for the little brownie.
Vice versa, this whole plate of strawberries is 300 calories:
And here’s the punchline…
This isn’t a debate of the brownie vs the strawberries.
What I want you to think is “and” instead of “or”.
The cosmic brownie by itself will be delicious!
But will leave you still hungry and wanting more.
The whole plate of strawberries will leave really full!
But maybe doesn’t tackle that real sweet craving.
So my point is if you start using the “and” mentality, you can pair foods that can solve both.
You can have a cosmic brownie AND a balanced meal high in protein to help ensure you are full and satisfied.
This is putting the cosmic brownie in a position of success.
It’s a one-trick pony in regards to what it can do for you aka make your diet sustainable because you can fit in a sweet treat that you love.
But it’s not going to keep you full, satisfied, nor really help you hit your macro goals.
We are after a lifestyle, not just a temporary diet.
A diet that isn’t really a diet.
It is a way of eating that helps you live your best life and lasts a lifetime.
They are all really low-calorie and it takes me at least 10-15 minutes to finish each piece.
So I get the flavor, duration, and satisfaction without having it be a caloric bomb.
Any other hard candy I need to add to the arsenal!?
January has FLOWN by. I hope it is treating you well and February is looking even better!
But 9.5% of the year is officially done.
Pretty wild to think about when you put it into an exact percentage.
Just a reminder not to put your goals off.
The year is only going to go by faster as we go along.
You know I believe in you! Keep killin it.
Much love and happy cooking,
Zach
